Gathering around the fire, keeping an eye and an ear open for the cry that meant that one of the flock was in trouble. Weather beaten, rough and ready types; handy with a cudgel to drive off raiders - human or animal - that might take a fancy to their Master's flock. It was a necessary job, but not a well-regarded one; when they went into town, smelling of unwashed wool and unwashed bodies, people tended to move away from them. Other than that, nobody bothered them, or paid them much attention. And then, in the sky, came a golden light. Dawn? Had the night passed so quickly? But it was in the wrong place. The light grew, a shape appearing within it, and terrified they threw themselves to the ground; and the voice came: "Don't be afraid! Good News! Go into the town, and find the Saviour: the Messiah is born! Find the stable, see the child!" And the light grew, and the trumpets sounded, and in wonderment the shepherds looked at each other as the sky above filled with Angels singing out their message of joy, of hope, and of praise.</p>AlbertRosshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04197026112998284172noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-421761567221200109.post-32401942465706970342020-12-19T09:45:00.001+00:002020-12-19T09:45:03.128+00:00Day 19<p> More Angels from the White House School today!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdk-Acwo15fK0mU5k68w2mQOMlT80ihkuS0LoP85RH529GvffULTdSnZYKwJYYowPAz2q3DfSxHSrDGKwMXlSACiXw3rl0CWu-YiIn9NcohSU1Gpa5YviLDv5PzQUF0zGo-gwLavLnYvg/s5152/IMG_0956.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="5152" data-original-width="3864" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdk-Acwo15fK0mU5k68w2mQOMlT80ihkuS0LoP85RH529GvffULTdSnZYKwJYYowPAz2q3DfSxHSrDGKwMXlSACiXw3rl0CWu-YiIn9NcohSU1Gpa5YviLDv5PzQUF0zGo-gwLavLnYvg/s320/IMG_0956.JPG" /></a></div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEESBEPfu7Lstj6v1swtM_hmZdfUjKY_0WnADWB_HhXwpsArnC2H9ACoXihSiGePistgM3y8zG9KxGRR3gcgpG9HTWT-Jje_MXc9fwEz2wANzTzb5XmV3ImkOwE8gSAPEcgxM11ODaU04/s4699/IMG_0944.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4699" data-original-width="3523" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEESBEPfu7Lstj6v1swtM_hmZdfUjKY_0WnADWB_HhXwpsArnC2H9ACoXihSiGePistgM3y8zG9KxGRR3gcgpG9HTWT-Jje_MXc9fwEz2wANzTzb5XmV3ImkOwE8gSAPEcgxM11ODaU04/s320/IMG_0944.JPG" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHqrEyFcTFyeLS8UqS1VczU9XUTOdHSf7CxYHWAYqxF-FXOD0lNttB7Rl1yke7WqwQobvrc2IpGfcNTLbOTTr3C67udnBaP1Z1Aywu7oUSbIqT1eL9E3jlqVndSBxrzYLC-PnJcaXlhDA/s4662/IMG_0946.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4662" data-original-width="3669" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHqrEyFcTFyeLS8UqS1VczU9XUTOdHSf7CxYHWAYqxF-FXOD0lNttB7Rl1yke7WqwQobvrc2IpGfcNTLbOTTr3C67udnBaP1Z1Aywu7oUSbIqT1eL9E3jlqVndSBxrzYLC-PnJcaXlhDA/s320/IMG_0946.JPG" /></a></div><br /><br /><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkD6D5sKVOTFa0y84fl7C931Q98ELQJJtJyVHyydhd7jxVemaLeSxImGGvpGwKpUbqiAdq2VbLivQnsQindAsUfh8P1EG_pqLyZj5HwksecmXBLpfiid0bHvAsNIs7SZR3Oee5XlDeyGE/s5152/IMG_0957.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="5152" data-original-width="3864" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkD6D5sKVOTFa0y84fl7C931Q98ELQJJtJyVHyydhd7jxVemaLeSxImGGvpGwKpUbqiAdq2VbLivQnsQindAsUfh8P1EG_pqLyZj5HwksecmXBLpfiid0bHvAsNIs7SZR3Oee5XlDeyGE/s320/IMG_0957.JPG" /></a></div><br /><p>It's almost time. The ranks of Angels, forming up in the sky, but currently still hidden. Waiting for the moment, when they shall be revealed - not in their glory, but in God's Glory. Beneath them, the world is dark. Well, mostly. There's a fire or two, and in the distance a few glimmers that indicate a town. Sparks in the night, that will soon be dim in comparison to the light that will shine. One has the honour - one alone will appear and declare the message to those below, before all join in raising the song - that God's own Son is born among them. Soon, all will be glorious. For the moment, shrouded in darkness, they wait.</p>AlbertRosshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04197026112998284172noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-421761567221200109.post-54549740845838167532020-12-18T09:00:00.003+00:002020-12-18T09:00:46.622+00:00Day 18 - God rest you merry, Gentlemen<p>Today's Angels are some of those knitted by our members, that will over the next few days be winging their way to their new homes!</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHiC9FMgbInoXTFW6Bbu9r0aHpShI1X5nvMdVyTb4CLf_m1buYU00Ycg_7L2jl9o4x3l7UI8lNG8UUTIsHh_A6Ymf69IBAQ7jkrgo0SXsV68kzzGZlYXHaevD6OjT-XgWbS77n4vQ8S0I/s4096/IMG_20201216_122804521.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2304" data-original-width="4096" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHiC9FMgbInoXTFW6Bbu9r0aHpShI1X5nvMdVyTb4CLf_m1buYU00Ycg_7L2jl9o4x3l7UI8lNG8UUTIsHh_A6Ymf69IBAQ7jkrgo0SXsV68kzzGZlYXHaevD6OjT-XgWbS77n4vQ8S0I/w400-h225/IMG_20201216_122804521.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /> <p></p><p>The difference a comma makes! She was bent down, phone in one hand, the other touching the arm of an old man who had slipped and fallen. "It's all right," she said, "Don't be afraid. I'll stay with you." Then she talked more urgently into her phone: "I think he's broken his hip. How long before you can get here?" The response obviously didn't please her, and there was a flash of angelic fire in those eyes. "Can I help," I asked. "Well, you could lend me your coat!" It was cold - the old man had slipped on the unmelted ice on the pavement. Then I noticed that her own coat was already balled up and acting as a pillow. I took mine off, and handed to her. As I did, a passing breeze caught it and it ballooned out behind her. Almost like wings. Then, she placed it over the man. A few minutes later, an Ambulance arrived, and the old man was carefully lifted onto a wheeled stretcher. I reclaimed my coat. "Where did she go?" said the Paramedic. "She's an Angel," whispered the man as they loaded him into the ambulance. "They're always busy." And sure enough, I saw her, walking quickly and purposefully into the church across the road. Moments later came the sound: "Hark, the Herald-Angels sing" - and even in the gloomy street, it seemed like there might yet be Good News to share.</p>AlbertRosshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04197026112998284172noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-421761567221200109.post-61210405747584657812020-12-16T08:56:00.002+00:002020-12-16T09:02:02.932+00:00Day 16: Hark! When we think of that, what sort of voices do we hear? For me, it's often someone like the young Aled Jones, singing "Walking in the air" from The Snowman on Top of the Pops. And yet, these are beings whose voices can resound across the sky, Angels whose singing sends a thrill down the spine, Angels whose singing inspires awe and wonder. When we hear the angels sing - when we are invited to share their song - we can think of the harmony, the gusto, the sheer delight of raising voices to praise God. We can raise our own voices too - "Angelic", or not...</div><br /><p><br /></p>AlbertRosshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04197026112998284172noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-421761567221200109.post-25505268916320785132020-12-14T09:40:00.003+00:002020-12-14T09:40:34.316+00:00Day 14<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Today's Angel Pictures are again in local shops - this time, Moo and Boom, and Wagstaffe's.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-o9MUvmrMhtydJgL4jek6aH3mcnxyhW8fEqBSVgmDMUho23fKGYfv6IKqJQ-9lKxIirkbfNkAAZXbjfkFQEyTAkJW-pLDY9EqpE4NpMgO00AUotsmiuBpCAVdWw2zkGVC1iSkjeqgZDw/s4096/IMG_20201212_155259745.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4096" data-original-width="2304" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-o9MUvmrMhtydJgL4jek6aH3mcnxyhW8fEqBSVgmDMUho23fKGYfv6IKqJQ-9lKxIirkbfNkAAZXbjfkFQEyTAkJW-pLDY9EqpE4NpMgO00AUotsmiuBpCAVdWw2zkGVC1iSkjeqgZDw/s320/IMG_20201212_155259745.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9_dnsLvhKbGmo9HnwRBjn2hrzVo4YnnbOLDz0dd0db_9JJwNwpL1svJh1wul8ML5TSW5UdvluXaWrvdos9ctV-BhviJjieHFk4vYIHZA2NfVw2YHM8Ua0QaDxQYAt-hTrAKAiEYs-a3E/s4096/IMG_20201212_155538698.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2304" data-original-width="4096" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9_dnsLvhKbGmo9HnwRBjn2hrzVo4YnnbOLDz0dd0db_9JJwNwpL1svJh1wul8ML5TSW5UdvluXaWrvdos9ctV-BhviJjieHFk4vYIHZA2NfVw2YHM8Ua0QaDxQYAt-hTrAKAiEYs-a3E/s320/IMG_20201212_155538698.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /> <p></p><p><br /></p><p>In dark of night, the Angel came</p><p>Standing on the empty air</p><p>In Its eyes were sparks of flame</p><p>Its open wings with light did flare.</p><p><br /></p><p>"Listen Joseph! He was a craftsman, who knew his way around a piece of wood, not a priest who knew his way around the scriptures; nevertheless, he always tried to be a decent man and do the decent thing. When Mary had come to him, told him, hadn't he tried to be reasonable? To break things off quietly, not heaping on even more disgrace than she would surely receive? And then had come, in his sleep that night, the Angel's voice: "Don't be afraid. It's true. Mary's child is God's promised one." He'd needed to hear it; and as the years went by, he still needed to hear it. The hurried wedding; the knowing looks around the town; the comments about how the child "doesn't look much like you"; the anger at the whispers about his beloved wife. Without the Angel's voice, would he have had the strength to shrug it all off? To have treated the boy as his own? He'd needed that memory: that knowledge that, in his own way, he had been chosen too. He would always remember the voice of the Angel.</p>AlbertRosshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04197026112998284172noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-421761567221200109.post-50486475594181523182020-12-12T08:36:00.001+00:002020-12-12T08:36:32.734+00:00Day 12<p> Pictures from two more of our local businesses today - Walkers Bakery, and Hype Hair and Beauty!</p><p><a aria-label="Photo – Landscape – 10 Dec 2020, 09:42:37" class="p137Zd" href="https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipMUgcbQJRp6PDVrfV8X5JUk1k_btyGwbFS_oN4q" jsaction="click:eQuaEb;focus:AHmuwe; blur:O22p3e;" tabindex="0"></a><img class="SzDcob" data-atf="false" data-iml="33297.420000017155" height="180" jsname="uLHQEd" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/muUbAQ-V0_AfrFWLvz4KQuMMKGez3d7OI6HXccTcPu-U2iYIK33sM9Af9yMlHKdm7vbakOEpYeelAdhvsAycm0ItHiRIVHBFEb_f4psSI9nxVkz5wYXv0eWCo5U8sJq12-6Wbs3dOmvjBKNatjO3RQ6P7EUK-NkzAooh1olN7yiyOIafiUFylNRBOH44LDZX0PqnzRtq1xSx2490mGIY2hnUOJ7dp3_k_eLgcwPx6pEm2LxprclHAUl-Rl99cFsSO77Hu2Iwm_OQBSXNoLbKWsM86vsdScXhAXXUkwiPpcEprCnZm19BkRRffxwpPNMm8hlUJMS8YZ_akKJkBsmLUtLgS2ba4KUarlBzdPgVpJc76rcea7AYWt5ELo3nDOb8QE-7sjOoVUNLqajFkLQjOtJO2MsDC-pXXtzRRj7s_0mHh0R1nVnv-vHvfEAxZQRWWTtLs1e6bDQpg6qh4VuKRw003WcmEP-jONtGavXsO52W7156EqObOhsFtdLWTc0xfzlaY6NsTpBK9MvmQvpUuJHdnmA_9Be9GeTTTP3LVSsQGn3fULQyGgN12pO_xpiLnskqyHCD-KX0f1JBVHK7BZniq5eCDwCF3_dzByD_lmBoje-MtUItpLIC91foaspukpt5IJRXxddO8xRtGhqOIp3I-cy-Nrmm0rwwWn7PmP8VQHYho2scVMvMMiyevQ=w320-h180?authuser=0" style="transform: translate3d(0px, 0px, 0px) rotate(0deg);" width="320" /><img class="SzDcob" data-iml="81035.49500001827" height="180" jsname="uLHQEd" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/wjnnNdlHKS8oVE0a4kCg23jrgwW4stqCv2pKNIlC3LmtmLvT1HXMdXINN_O8OS4-Eocbk_Sev3L-a9wsOTeM3lnJadUL1tdQNXbFJENF2CsmFr3Aqsh3PiKYJNMUneRTAbguiufrjpHsyq4eYwSwg09C3kQNGNag7shFcwdoAqXtB-Bd0_TSci729SNp7csBKcIlbMQfnULcZR2iZ4G2F2nsgMMOo0AIzj8WjD5LH3B8C4vlzeZR3-Mw-9gTwzmxLX7XoVxBd84eujdLL5sUX4ixOjnzSIG0zLbryAhd8IhnBfeXy6H5qOsXQ1k6u7HyW6yN22NB2ttOYl6J9n-_07E67roWHQ9terMEB0VF8sNd4RBPvEVsSwd06iZ1L_nbckdW3c4z3Cq5Pmq-DUYVXynOzk-4nTrEM2XBgUv_aIigd8qMa2I53UOC1SKHCJgl_13GFQR9OxY0ey58CWu9ao7hVl0t2EkRewRyU4iUkt3FUDPdEN3WXS0GYywEnhrtb75y87tiT6OFnCA-Kg18sKHRGXTtXg1O2leWO_C-HKeLJMa3ws6kSM6xBvgJtaw4RipPD8ymcgBxLGIFsMry7f05IyIz1Lamt9QzyfVp575TctK8zhyhrm9SVVCLqB7H-P2JwT_KhcwfybTkcmHkc6sVWpQQJaPZ7LOu3l9JDmuBtWNoOA0XOD-nRybQSA=w320-h180?authuser=0" style="transform: translate3d(0px, 0px, 0px) rotate(0deg);" width="320" /></p><div class="RY3tic" data-latest-bg="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/muUbAQ-V0_AfrFWLvz4KQuMMKGez3d7OI6HXccTcPu-U2iYIK33sM9Af9yMlHKdm7vbakOEpYeelAdhvsAycm0ItHiRIVHBFEb_f4psSI9nxVkz5wYXv0eWCo5U8sJq12-6Wbs3dOmvjBKNatjO3RQ6P7EUK-NkzAooh1olN7yiyOIafiUFylNRBOH44LDZX0PqnzRtq1xSx2490mGIY2hnUOJ7dp3_k_eLgcwPx6pEm2LxprclHAUl-Rl99cFsSO77Hu2Iwm_OQBSXNoLbKWsM86vsdScXhAXXUkwiPpcEprCnZm19BkRRffxwpPNMm8hlUJMS8YZ_akKJkBsmLUtLgS2ba4KUarlBzdPgVpJc76rcea7AYWt5ELo3nDOb8QE-7sjOoVUNLqajFkLQjOtJO2MsDC-pXXtzRRj7s_0mHh0R1nVnv-vHvfEAxZQRWWTtLs1e6bDQpg6qh4VuKRw003WcmEP-jONtGavXsO52W7156EqObOhsFtdLWTc0xfzlaY6NsTpBK9MvmQvpUuJHdnmA_9Be9GeTTTP3LVSsQGn3fULQyGgN12pO_xpiLnskqyHCD-KX0f1JBVHK7BZniq5eCDwCF3_dzByD_lmBoje-MtUItpLIC91foaspukpt5IJRXxddO8xRtGhqOIp3I-cy-Nrmm0rwwWn7PmP8VQHYho2scVMvMMiyevQ=w330-h185-no?authuser=0" style="background-image: url("https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/muUbAQ-V0_AfrFWLvz4KQuMMKGez3d7OI6HXccTcPu-U2iYIK33sM9Af9yMlHKdm7vbakOEpYeelAdhvsAycm0ItHiRIVHBFEb_f4psSI9nxVkz5wYXv0eWCo5U8sJq12-6Wbs3dOmvjBKNatjO3RQ6P7EUK-NkzAooh1olN7yiyOIafiUFylNRBOH44LDZX0PqnzRtq1xSx2490mGIY2hnUOJ7dp3_k_eLgcwPx6pEm2LxprclHAUl-Rl99cFsSO77Hu2Iwm_OQBSXNoLbKWsM86vsdScXhAXXUkwiPpcEprCnZm19BkRRffxwpPNMm8hlUJMS8YZ_akKJkBsmLUtLgS2ba4KUarlBzdPgVpJc76rcea7AYWt5ELo3nDOb8QE-7sjOoVUNLqajFkLQjOtJO2MsDC-pXXtzRRj7s_0mHh0R1nVnv-vHvfEAxZQRWWTtLs1e6bDQpg6qh4VuKRw003WcmEP-jONtGavXsO52W7156EqObOhsFtdLWTc0xfzlaY6NsTpBK9MvmQvpUuJHdnmA_9Be9GeTTTP3LVSsQGn3fULQyGgN12pO_xpiLnskqyHCD-KX0f1JBVHK7BZniq5eCDwCF3_dzByD_lmBoje-MtUItpLIC91foaspukpt5IJRXxddO8xRtGhqOIp3I-cy-Nrmm0rwwWn7PmP8VQHYho2scVMvMMiyevQ=w330-h185-no?authuser=0"); opacity: 1;"><div aria-hidden="true" class="eGiHwc"></div><div aria-hidden="true" class="KYCEmd"></div></div><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p>Mary and Elizabeth aren't the only ones involved of course. My wings are well hidden, and my eyes do not shine, but I am still an angel. I do not wear a white robe, and my halo is away to be cleaned, but I still have plenty to say. I chat to everyone, and I help them where I can; even as I strip off my mask and apron and gloves ready for the next patient I am thinking about how even this is a sign of how I care. I don't sing "Happy Birthday" as I wash my hands; I sing a good old fashioned hymn instead. "Risen with healing in his wings" it says in one that I like. It's good to know that even an Everyday Angel can bring healing. I just wish I could heal them all.... but then, even an Angel can't do that.</p>AlbertRosshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04197026112998284172noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-421761567221200109.post-45117604832237014802020-12-10T09:06:00.001+00:002020-12-10T09:06:26.284+00:00Day 10 - Tell Out my Soul<p><img aria-label="Photo – Landscape – 5 Dec 2020, 15:16:54" class="SzDcob" data-iml="38339.63999999105" height="225" jsname="uLHQEd" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Hitj1rxBA3XSJmq3xOTMIL9yhwq5edWaiqA4yFsrvIFCIs6EX6r83WEW3farwGATc0kvYn3COANGP-TWxI0k2rrq5ybtBL-mY1Mojl2H52fbrWPINI8JzA5FicBe61bjYJmAFi5gdSB6CZKjfIniHJkknsrI0ZgbS4KgBMvVtQUa_X5edJBexSzz7_h2DDgxO4lAbf3XmRRBK5Smd-gZw5jwuXoT_HRrVCkZePfbx7DSGJDxcLAhfaFtKsepe1RUfeA4x-oPvYfQGSSqjaC0gwFrTtkiTgzSqJZGa5Qf8aupNdXHCy8PEBWSTpUfp5J28Sp4cLY4dB8lwX-5O6LLgF9X0Q4Q3049REgPC7Bu0vK43qxGDj6t-QNHH3EJJ-PqApq357u_lgNZRkzjklNtJTWtZjWqX1VFBirzUWh3IVc7jC0GF0McQ25BI7cEvKQWVYHw-skvvPm-bpfOHYOtjDHmG2olU0x1FsEzDmMHUi_HIYPjZWgDxVsW2TiJ1ASvcop5X43NPwq7vV5v1yvjK7_2AMr-1JwaD822OEDJTSOmASop5V4nVVKcddgfv_x54D8v96OC-9YpMzBFKORA6Mv95UuWGcDQy7b9pdGESZ0a_6SXyZS_Rk1MrrRd_OOg-v5rRnONmQ1Qere688LrhwKK4xwcGwS_hFlyZVjRYLM5Dhlt6jUDhOeg1Qi1-A=w400-h225?authuser=0" style="transform: translate3d(0px, 0px, 0px) rotate(0deg);" width="400" /> Today's Angel is in the window of another of our local shops - this time it's Card Market, on Green End.</p><p><br /></p><p>Mary's song when she meets Elizabeth, her cousin; a song of praise to God, but also a prophecy - of how the child in her womb will be the Lord, the Mighty one, and one who will challenge those with proud hearts and stubborn wills, while the hungry will be fed and the humble lifted high. In Isaiah 6, the prophet sees Seraphim in a vision, waiting upon God; two wings cover their faces, two more their feet; with two more, they fly back and forth, proclaiming the holiness of God. And yet, when the call goes out, "Who shall I send?" it is not an Angel who must take God's words to the people, but the astonished, even terrified, Isaiah. How much easier it might be if every message from God was delivered by an Angel! And yet we too - broken, fallible and uncertain as we are - are called to be God's messengers.</p><p style="text-align: right;"><br /></p><p style="text-align: right;"><br /></p>AlbertRosshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04197026112998284172noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-421761567221200109.post-32951641834187613112020-12-07T09:12:00.000+00:002020-12-07T09:12:33.468+00:00Day 7 - The Angel Gabriel from Heaven came<div class="separator"><p style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: left;">Today's Angel is one made by our members, and in the window of BookShrop, on Green End. In this Basque Carol, we are shown a different image: "his wings as drifted snow, his eyes as flame". It's an altogether more alarming - but also awe-inspiring - image; this, one of the most powerful of God's servants, appearing to a young woman with startling news: God has chosen her! Gentle Mary, meek and mild? Or a personality, already able to understand the implications of Gabriel's message to her? Mary, the one chosen; Mary, who shows strength and courage; Mary, who realises early on that her child will be what Gabriel has told her; Mary, who continues to support and follow her son all the way to Golgotha; Mary, who goes to the tomb three days later. Mary, who hears what the Angel has to say to her, and, like many other messages, ponders them in her heart. Mary, who doesn't just accept God's message to her, but becomes a willing participant in it, shaping her whole life around the message that she hears in those moments. Mary, who trusts in God. Mary, who to some may have seemed an unremarkable young woman - but as God knows, and Gabriel sees, has that inner strength and devotion to Yahweh that makes her utterly extraordinary. As the Angel leaves her, Gabriel knows that his message has reached the right person. Mary, the strong; Mary, the faithful one who will bear the Messiah and live out the rest of her life devoted to Him.</p>AlbertRosshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04197026112998284172noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-421761567221200109.post-40695202319855865712020-12-05T11:07:00.000+00:002020-12-05T11:07:04.775+00:00Day 5<div class="separator"><p style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img class="SzDcob" data-atf="false" data-iml="147449000.41" height="180" jsname="uLHQEd" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/4qDOhHLuMZTP5OQin-HUINTi2lTq5fTG7X3OgF498Otv5aYCq5vG-EQftHOfO2Bw0lnvWVBQivH0yFu344aCrumsJkH9Hxntv7NWJJKCiKSGf_z2CtHDSNo2UpSifgcsMCvCSDspurkpWzyfI3GhHqE0ZUc7aMKHgWE3YQkbvwyzRvildZ4L_5kJ0KBaNEX_DIE0mJfIFMuus6qnfAJNbZpRcPeiUuMNh-jpQDybUDyVnaUFbgcGP5m0iuF3BY4fxgI-jBfW2Ej7f226wW_OYzDsOKvsGSb9g1avEBRQMpoUTEinSO6Hxn8GOHcctRdM4MQxveVpKQc2zQas2LfpmvObm-ZdvJkObErvag038-GCe5y2Db4H8LuNOM85VupNq3XazOkUdqP82z9Ac-hw8V3BDX0dyiMgzdHoMBWgr9qxGxHsk2wu1Oi2553X731fvYHmDH-xClcB_tybRfCINuBKzZRVdyH_7Xa3uiIqTFYA4ETRkXXA53byzvo126dZRb8sy43cWkNlQyFCrdGhgaBketHjdR12FJ3v_4MuOLfGS1dVJoZCozrQ-4kXM15g3THTvgIzHVgS7SHC_Rh50syroGk6uCOikQ6pb6jaQiFuaDuiIDRLICkscZ_3mAFUw-bHzMbP-l4bcM-_gKDj69q0x52CKFFRaCefGlm3PdVccfB1pC3ptKbORFMTdg=w320-h180?authuser=0" style="transform: translate3d(0px, 0px, 0px) rotate(0deg);" width="320" /> <span style="text-align: right;">Today's Angel is part of a Hand-Carved Nativity Set. </span></p><p style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;">I don't feel like an angel. I'm just doing what I can. Helping others isn't anything out of the ordinary really, it's just what I do. And it's a shame, when people get stuck on their own. I started volunteering during Lockdown, for something to do really - and it was about helping me as much as anyone else. I've enjoyed it - it's given me a sense of purpose. Dropping off shopping, going to the Chemists for people, just phoning someone up to say hello. "You're an angel", they say. Well, it's nice to be appreciated - but like I say, it's helped me as much as it's helped them. Good News didn't appear in Nazareth. Gabriel went to the Temple, where an old
man was performing his priestly duties. He and his wife had never had children
- a source of pain to them both. For Zechariah and Elizabeth, it now seemed too
late - despite his earnest prayers, they were both now past the age of
parenting. Despite this cause of sorrow to them, life carried on; and during
this time of his service in the Temple, he was selected for an important duty -
to go and burn incense on the Altar. And there, in front of him, was an Angel.
Gabriel would have been no smiling cherub; this was a tall, shining, imposing
figure - inspiring awe and not a little fear. But the message he delivered that
day was Good News: Zechariah's prayer had been heard. Elizabeth would bear him
a son, and not just any son - one who would be great in God's sight, one to
prepare God's people for what was to come. And his name would be John. And
then, he left - leaving Zechariah quite literally speechless. He would not
speak again until the naming of his son - when he would raise his voice in
praise to God, adding his voice to those of the Angels in Heaven.</span><p></p>AlbertRosshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04197026112998284172noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-421761567221200109.post-296004875227033492020-12-01T08:00:00.002+00:002020-12-01T08:00:05.983+00:00Advent 2020 - Day 1<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhl3yAwFyzNu0ZCDPLKza-FDnZbEOLlBjF7d-cEJ7CPqYUvs-q6zrqdAsyUMXKeWqwdTi9GHY4Q59rfs0jBHPllLNm-U2ol2E7L_JMMwmxlaEYoqsrjBJEkP8rgwzeILN40FynC9Fcwkk/" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhl3yAwFyzNu0ZCDPLKza-FDnZbEOLlBjF7d-cEJ7CPqYUvs-q6zrqdAsyUMXKeWqwdTi9GHY4Q59rfs0jBHPllLNm-U2ol2E7L_JMMwmxlaEYoqsrjBJEkP8rgwzeILN40FynC9Fcwkk/" width="180" /></a></div>Today's Angel Picture comes from Chris Crowther.<p></p><p>Day 1 - Introduction</p><p>..."and hear the Angels sing". In a normal year, Christmas is a season of singing: Carol Services and concerts, Christmas Songs played on repeat in the shops, the annual race to be at the top of the charts for Christmas. 2020 will be somewhat different - if nothing else, the fact that we are not able to gather together to sing will make a difference to many. And yet, there will still be songs, and singing: and there is still reason to raise our voices in praise and thanksgiving. </p><p>Look back, just over 2000 years, to a small part of the Roman Empire. A priest called Zechariah prepared for his duties in the Temple; in Nazareth, Joseph the Carpenter bent to his hard physical work, and thought about his approaching marriage; meanwhile, the young woman who was his betrothed wondered what sort of husband he would be. Out on the hills, shepherds carried on their work of protecting their master's flocks. Normal people, doing normal things, and hoping that the Romans would leave them be. The lands of the Jewish people were no longer their own; the Roman occupiers imposed their will upon the people and there was the threat of a census - a demonstration of their power over their subjects. Herod was King, but only because Rome was sure of his loyalty to the Emperor. Meanwhile, most just kept on going with their heads down, hoping for a quiet life. Over the days of Advent, we're going to remember where the Angels fit into this picture - of how they came, bringing messages that were sometimes disturbing, but also full of hope, of Good News. Hark! Can you hear them? Even now, they are still raising their voices in praise and worship. Will you hear the Angels sing?</p><div><br /></div>AlbertRosshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04197026112998284172noreply@blogger.com0
